Often, the best solutions come when you face a real problem. More than a decade ago, chemists Trimongsowati and Dr Ubbo von Oehsen put their heads together to find a solution to Tri’s issues with her gums and teeth. She had tried many conventional treatments, all to no avail, but she always had a hunch that the answer was found in nature, specifically plant-based ingredients.
After intensive research on essential oils, which are often naturally antiseptic and anti-inflammatory, Tri and Ubbo created and experimented with various botanical products. After trying several blends, Tri’s teeth and gums healed for good.
The result of this successful experiment was Oral Botanica, which many experts have hailed as an exceptional oral care product. It is a “liquid toothpaste” made entirely from organic essential oils. Pandemic Gave Rise to New Ideas
As the pandemic hit in 2020, Botanica Culture swiftly launched a new product line for everyday use, Lifestyle Boosters. The first item is an alcohol-free hand sanitiser created from a blend of powerful antimicrobial essential oils to eliminate bacteria and germs without leaving the hands dry or chapped.
They also developed an ingenious mask spray that banishes the damp, stale smell that builds up in a face mask, especially in sticky Singapore. The spray combines potent deodorising essential oils with those that calm and soothe the mind and spirit, ideal for this time of frazzled nerves.

Local Roots, International Growth
As people discovered Botanica Culture and the business took off, Tri and Ubbo have been able to keep production in-house and in Singapore by purchasing their own automated bottling system.
While production remains local, Botanic Culture’s business has gone international. Leveraging on the Singapore government’s digitalisation grant, the company has set up networks of distributors and retail outlets worldwide, in Indonesia, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Denmark and the UK. Their online store (botanicaculture.com) serves customers from across the globe, many referred by dentists or natural health practitioners.
Locally, Botanica Culture has become a familiar name in natural healthcare. They now have more than 60 outlets, including Watsons and numerous organic stores. Dental care practices and hospital clinics also carry Oral Botanica products.
